3D Printed SnowBurst 2014

Created by Laird Popkin

Snowflakes are beautiful and unique, but don't last very long. So we created ones that do. Sharing our 3D printed snowflakes.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

We made it!

We have made our goal!

Thank you to everyone who has pledged. We are grateful that you are helping us with our 3D printed art project. We're ordering filament and starting printing now, to make sure that we get everyone their rewards in time.

Golden Snowflakes!

Given how quickly we hit our target, we are announcing some additional rewards. One is a Flurry of Snowflakes, and the others are Golden Snowballs and Golden Snowflakes.

The Flurry of Snowflakes will have 8 assorted sized snowflakes (sized from 1" diameter and up) with a signed certificate for the batch of snowflakes.

The Golden Snowball and Snowflakes are printed with gold BuMat PLA filament. It's beautiful, though to be honest it's more of an amber color than literally gold.

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what they look like:

Quick update, FAQs, and a question for you
over 11 years ago – Tue, Dec 09, 2014 at 12:46:44 AM

First, I'd like to thank you for your support. We're already over half way to our target, and it's the morning of the first day!

You've asked a few great questions, and here are the answers:

Can I order multiples? You bet! If you would like multiple snowflakes or snowballs, pledge a multiple of the amount. What a nice question to be asked! We'll throw in a little extra...

Can we get the STL files so we can print our own snowflakes? Yes! When we do the survey, we'll ask for an email address to send them to.

I'll ask a question in return: what other materials would you be interested in? We're starting with White PLA, since that's ecologically friendly and looks like snow. But there are all sorts of other materials that we can print with. So if we exceed our goal, which looks quite possible, we'll add some more color options. What would you be interested in? Please post comments below. We'll take the most popular colors, do some test prints, and turn them into 'stretch goals'. For example, some materials that we think might look nice:

- Clear, Gold or Silver PLA.

- Taulman T-glase (clear, red, green, blue, black). It's beautiful stuff, though a little expensive. We might need to charge a bit more for this.

- Flexible filament (Nylon, NinjaFlex, etc.).
